The Criminal District Attorney’s Office has six attorneys who represent Child Protective Services in all litigation in Tarrant County in which CPS is alleging abuse or neglect and is seeking court intervention. These attorneys handle civil suits in child cases in which parental rights are terminated; suits in which children are placed for adoption; and other suits that affect the custody of children.
The litigation can also result in the placement of children with relatives or in other appropriate living arrangements. Additionally, it can result in the return of a child to a parent, if the reason for the abuse or neglect has been alleviated.
These attorneys work in an office in east Fort Worth with the Department of Family and Protective Services. By placing these attorneys on site with the DFPS, the Criminal District Attorney’s Office is able to foster a productive working relationship with DFPS and better support child victims who are caught up in traumatic cases.
