In 1990, the Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney’s Office established one of the first child abuse prosecution units in Texas. The attorneys assigned to the Crimes Against Children Unit specialize in the prosecution of sexual and physical abuse of young children and child fatalities.
The unit’s attorneys receive extensive training in preparing child-victims for court. Its investigators provide specialized expertise to police agencies handling cases involving child victims and assist the attorneys in trial preparation. The unit also includes a forensic interviewer who is experienced in interviewing child victims.
The unit works closely with law enforcement agencies, Child Protective Services, Cook Children’s Hospital, and The Alliance for Children as a part of a multi-disciplinary team to conduct joint investigations. Its mission is to provide the best possible outcome for child victims and their families.
The Crimes Against Children Unit is dedicated to providing specialized legal assistance to children who are victims of criminal conduct so that the rights and interests of the children are always protected.
